Summer Reading Challenge

Essex Libraries’ Summer Reading Challenge 2010 is a spaceage epic that all children are welcome to join in at their local library. By reading books and earning stickers, children will join the Space-Hop characters as they jet off in their ecopowered rocket Ex Libris (with it’s own on-board library) as they head for the moon.

But the Spacekatz – cheeky, sneaky meerkats who maraud the outer limits in their own flying saucer in search of books to steal have picked up the scent and are chasing the Ex Libri across the galaxy. If Essex Libraries’ readers and the crew of the Ex Libris are to outpace the Spacekatz, and set up a reading corner on the moon, they are going to have to read six books, and dodge the amazing meteor shower that shoots across their path. All those who read six books will earn a medal.

For those aged 10 years and over, there will be a separate activity – Space Station 2010 - which will send them orbiting in to outer space as space cadets completing tasks to achieve galactic rewards. Space Hop and Space Station 2010 will take place in all libraries and mobile libraries between Saturday 24th July and Saturday 4th September.
